Objective 1: 5G Control

Course objectives:

  • Understand the basic concepts, characteristics and application cases of 5G drones in various industries
  • Experience and understand 5G drone off-site flight technology to guide students in creative practice of formation programming, including the use of music and LED lights to perform drone performances
  • Understand the knowledge of drone flight safety, take written examinations and practical exercises, and obtain the AOPA honorary certificate

Course features:

  • Cooperate with online courses and in person tutors to enable students to fully understand drone technology and related knowledge
  • Combined with practical application cases, students can understand the latest technology and development trends of drones
  • Access to different types of drones, including 5G drones, programming drones and building block drones, etc.
  • Introduce content such as formation flying and creative programming, and use drone simulators to cultivate students’ 3D space

Thinking, teamwork, problem solving and innovative thinking skills

  • Take the Written and flight exam and be awarded AOPA’s official Certificate

Course hours: 36 hours in total (combination of 5G x AI aviation programming performance and filming HKUST in person lectures + AOPA certificate course)

    • 36 hours
    • Day 1:  10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00; 5G drone & AOPA training
      • Introduction to our Mini Drone and how to Remote control drones via 5G
      • Introduction to 5G: topics on 5G networks, how they are set up, how they are used, as well as how 5G solutions can affect drone flying and streaming
      • Application cases of 5G x AI drones in various industries, such as search and rescue, inspection
      • AOPA Training for written and flight test 
      • 5G mini for first HK solo: On our course, you will be given a chance to fly your own mini drone via 5G and ground control station, marking your first solo flight on the first day.
      • Remote controlling for sightseeing & Video Streaming: You will also get the chance to remote control a drone situated in China’s main sight attractions eg. Shanghai’s pearl tower, Jiuzai Valley national park… By controlling the drones situated there, you will be able to virtually sightsee and explore the whole area in detail through the eyes of the drone Get to know 5G drones

                       Day 2: 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00; AOPA test, PHD tutoring

    • Students will be taking the AOPA Written and flight test
      • Includes:
      • Drone theory: the foundations of drones
      • History of the UAV/UAS industry and uses 
      • Drone regulations and restrictions, how to control a drone 
      • How to control a drone via coding
      • Safeties of drone control: how to keep batteries, safety regulations
      • Theory: Physics on why drones fly 
      • Deep-dive into the types of drones, wing propellers, motors
      • PHD tutoring: 
        • Topics on Aerodynamics
        • Topics on AI 
          • Including Ai3D, real time create 3D digital model by 5G drone

      • Day 3: 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00; AOPA exam, PHD tutoring
      • PHD tutoring continued: 
        • Topics on engineering drones (how to put together a drone, the different components) continued 
        • Topics on Drone Control (continued)
        • Topics on Meteorology (continued)
      • AOPA Exam (continued): students will be taking the Written exam on this day
      • Introduce formation devices, such as LiteBee Wing/CLIP, image recognition carpet, network controller and aviation protection, etc., as well as a drone display in Victoria Harbor
      • Understand drone programming languages and basics
        • Day 4: 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00; FM4, drone show practice
        •  Understand the basic operations of formation programming
        •  Use UAV programming tools for flight simulation 
          • Students will get a chance to program their own group of drones with formation control via coding
          •  
        • Day 5: 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00; FM10, drone show practice
        • Advanced UAV Programming
        • Write basic instructions and algorithms for UAV flight control
        • Conduct flight simulations
          • Students will be piecing together their formation show with coding, making a short performance of different light patterns and movements for the drones to do.

        • Day 6: 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00; Graduate drone show video & Cert awards
        • Creative programming of drone formations to make CAESAR and other logos
        • Practical operation
        • Formation flying with music and LED lights
        • Master the CAESER name formation programming ideas
        • Certificates will be awarded on this day
